PETERBILT LAUNCHES SPECIAL EDITION MODEL 389X

Peterbilt has unveiled a limited-run special edition of its Model 389, a truck that has become a familiar sight on North American highways since the model was introduced. The new 389X pays tribute to that legacy with a package of exterior and interior touches designed to set it apart from the standard production line.

Exterior styling

The 389X makes its presence felt through a generous helping of polished brightwork. At the front, a highly polished hood crown surrounds a classic-style louvered grille sheet, a nod to the very first Peterbilt of 1939. The hood itself carries a brightly polished centreline trim, exclusive side-hood chrome accents and polished fenders.

The bright theme continues along the flanks with cowl skirts, a polished battery box, fuel tanks, a sunvisor and a bumper, while large seven-inch chrome exhaust stacks rise behind the cab. An exterior lighting package adds LED amber light strips that illuminate the air cleaners and the area beneath the rocker panels. The 389X name appears on the mud flaps and on the cab or sleeper.

Inside the cab

The interior treatment is just as distinctive. Dash panels are finished in a new Black Pearl burl woodgrain, complemented by special black-finish trim accents throughout the cab and sleeper. Bright chrome grab handles provide a further contrast, and the shifter plate carries a 389X emblem. The headrests are embroidered with 389X badging, which also appears on the sleeper backwall.

Each truck receives a serialised chrome dash plate showing its production number, along with a kit of custom 389X merchandise.

Configuration and availability

Buyers can specify the 389X as a day cab or with a 72-inch or 78-inch sleeper. Production will be capped at 1,389 trucks, and the model is available to order now through Peterbilt dealerships.

Commenting on the launch, Robert Woodall, assistant general manager of sales and marketing, said the 389X was superior in every detail, from its classic design and craftsmanship to its exclusive chrome elements inside and out, and predicted it would quickly become the most desirable truck on the road. He added that he looked forward to seeing the truck and its owners across North America soon.
