SCOOP: Scania Sauna Series

Scania has unveiled a Sauna-Series cab, developed specifically to help drivers manage stress and improve their wellbeing while out on the road.

The edition is offered exclusively on S-Series vehicles and incorporates a sauna built into the cab, intended as a space for relaxation.

Research conducted by Scania’s Fiktiva department concluded that drivers who used the sauna for 45 minutes a day would, in the company’s words, sweat their problems away.

Vera Havinnuon, Head of Påhittad Technology at Scania AF, said the company had been foolish not to focus on driver wellbeing sooner. Noting that some drivers spend most of their week in the cab, she said the aim was to bring them some home comforts to improve their time on the road.

She described the Sauna-Series as the most logical answer after years of research and development, adding that it is easy to use, suited to all conditions and simple to maintain, with a host of health benefits. She concluded that the project was, all in all, no sweat.

Testing indicated that drivers who used the sauna were more productive than their counterparts, with some claiming they could drive for an additional 4.5 hours a day.

Each Sauna-Series truck is fitted with an infrared heat cabin designed to use minimal energy and to operate without extraction fans to remove steam. That means the sauna can be used while watching television, reading, catching up on admin or taking a nap.

A set of matching accessories has been produced to accompany the Sauna-Series, including a luxury handcrafted towel set and a matching bathmat designed to absorb as much moisture as possible.

The first 250 people to register an interest in the Sauna-Series will receive a luxury bathmat free of charge. It normally retails at £2,304.01.
